Route planning capabilities

Account for what the vehicle carries at every stop

Capacity changes as goods are collected and delivered. The Flowtlas engine accepts named quantities and signed stop changes so the load can be evaluated along a route. Contact us to confirm generation availability and integrations for your workspace.

The operational problem

Use consistent quantities

Weight, volume and pallet counts can be separate capacity dimensions. Use the same names and units for the vehicle limit, starting load and task changes. The request uses integer values; it does not automatically convert units or calculate physical packing.

Product capability

The inputs and rules behind the plan

01

A simple capacity example

A four-pallet vehicle starts empty, collects two pallets and later delivers them. Its load is zero at the start, two after pickup and zero after delivery. When several jobs share a tour, all their load changes must be considered.

02

Time capacity and load capacity are different

Vehicle load limits describe how much can be carried. Work and drive limits describe available time. Both may matter, but one should not be used as a substitute for the other.

Practical workflow

From prepared work to a plan you can review

  1. 1

    Prepare the work

Supply locations, service durations, visit windows and resource requirements.

  2. 2

    Define the tours

Specify vehicles, assigned people, start locations and dated working periods.

  3. 3

    Apply the rules

Include consistent capacity units, eligibility and stop order where needed.

  4. 4

    Review the result

When generation is enabled, inspect assignments and estimates, including any work left unassigned.

Operational benefits

What this model does not decide

  • Explicit reload or disposal stops can change load. The stop label alone does not select the facility, allocate warehouse stock, split an order or enforce specialist cargo regulations.

In practice

Example: a two-pallet collection

A vehicle with capacity for four pallets starts empty. The job adds two pallets at a depot and removes those two pallets at the customer site.

This ledger explains capacity arithmetic for one fictional job. It is not a calculated plan. When other jobs share the route, their load changes and visit windows also affect the plan. For multiple capacity dimensions, each relevant quantity needs consistent units and limits.

Stop: Start; Load change: 0; On-board pallets after this stop: 0

Stop: Pickup; Load change: +2; On-board pallets after this stop: 2

Stop: Delivery; Load change: -2; On-board pallets after this stop: 0

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can one job have both a pickup and a delivery?

Yes. A task can contain ordered stops, keeping its pickup and delivery within one task on the same tour. Supply the locations, durations, visit windows and load changes for each stop.

Can capacity change after each stop?

Yes. Positive and negative stop changes describe load being added or removed. Supply the starting load and capacity consistently so every point along the route can be evaluated.

Can I plan with weight, volume and pallets?

The engine supports named capacity dimensions, so a request can describe several quantities. Use consistent names, units and integer values across capacity and load fields. This is a capacity model, not a physical packing or automatic unit-conversion system.

Can a route include a reload or disposal visit?

An explicitly supplied task chain can include these stop actions. The caller must provide the locations, sequence, durations and load effects. The action name alone does not select a facility or enforce industry-specific operating rules.
